Auckland Maternity Photographer - A bit of Magic from the Archives

I’ve recently been going back through my archives - and I found these gems from this wonderful maternity session with Briony and James back in 2016.

After photographing their epic wedding in Nelson the year before, I was SO excited when they asked me to capture some maternity photos for them as they prepared to welcome their first baby.

It’s always special to capture this moment in time for couples before they become parents - especially for these two, as now they are parents to four beautiful boys!

Why magic hour makes all the difference for maternity photography

I timed this session for magic hour - that teeny window just before sunset when the light turns soft, golden and dreamy. It's 100% my absolute favourite time to shoot maternity sessions, and for good reason: the light wraps around a bump rather than flattening it, skin tones look warm and even, and there's none of the harsh shadow or squinting you get under the midday sun. The low, golden light gives every frame an amazing soft glow - which, let’s face it, a pregnant mama is already a goddess - let’s highlight that fact using the delicious light!!

I’d say it’s the most flattering type of light there is - which matters a lot during pregnancy, when many people can feel self-conscious in front of a camera. With the dreamy flattering light doing its work, and me as your photographer making you feel super comfortable - you know you’re in great hands! :)
